1988 Indigo Syncro
Over several years, this 1988 Syncro went through a number of iterations and changes. Long before the inception of Quentin’s Garage.
At the beginning of this van’s ownership it started off as a Flash Silver Metallic (LP7Y/X9) Tin-top passenger van. Sporting a factory 2.1 Waterboxer motor, factory rear locker, and 27” all terrain tires. In its original form it was a fantastic vehicle that easily exceeded the needs most people ask of their van. :


What was essentially a blank canvas; The desire to push the boundaries of the Syncro platform, innovate, and learn through doing was irresistible. Over 5 years, every component had received some level of change or modification. From the drivetrain, interior, suspension, or body. Nothing went untouched.
The end result is the van known today. A highly recognizable, one-of-a-kind, off road weapon of a Syncro:



1988 Indigo Syncro:
Full windows out respray in 2K single stage Satin semi gloss paint. Paint custom tinted to resemble raw indigo denim. All Rust removed, treated and repaired before primer.
Tin top to Westfalia roof metal conversion. Westfalia pop top installed. (Hightop installed from 2019-2021) .
Front bumper relocated 50mm higher and 50mm further back to create a more desirable approach angle.
All fenders cut and lengthened 1.5” to accommodate 32.5” tires.
Custom Quentin’s Garage 40mm extended trailing arms Painted in Steel-it Black. Complete with Powerflex Polyurethane Bushings, Stainless Steel brake hard lines, and new E-brake cables ran.
Six 235/85r16 Goodyear Duratracs mounted to Fuchsfelge Audi A8 Lightweight Forged Wheels. Two full sized spares mounted to the back on Rocky Mountain Westy Swing aways.
Engine conversion to TDI. Electronic engine management system with Stage 1.5 tune installed.
Larger Turbo and Fuel injectors.
Pre-turbo EGT gauge.
Scangauge II.
Custom Air-to-Water Intercooler system. 26x7x3.5 Heat Changer mounted in front of Radiator.
10,000LB waterproof Winch. Integrated behind the front bumper. CAD designed winch mount constructed from 6061 Aerospace grade Aluminum.
1/4” 6061 Aluminum Skid Plate.
Custom Snorkel to improve wading depth.
Complete Transmission Overhaul. All brand new gears from GT, new 5.43 Ring and Pinion, aluminum housings, bearings and consumables. Oil temperature sensor, filtration and cooling system designed and integrated to provide additional oiling to known problem areas of the Syncro Transmission.
Addition of a front locking differential.
Solid Shaft installed in place of the Viscous coupling, for better off road performance.
Decoupler.
Porsche 930 CVs in both the front and rear. Genuine Syncro 16” output flanges and stub axles.
Bonoplex Insulated Windows. Sourced directly out of Germany.
Custom storage box integrated in the passenger side floor.
Custom DOM tubular rock sliders.
Recaro LSB seats. Custom upholstered in Left Hand Twill Selvedge Denim from Canadian denim company Naked and Famous. Detailed with genuine brass rivets.
Selvedge denim headliner and steering wheel.
Door hardware and trim media-blasted and painted with Steel-It Polyurathane Topcoat.
All hardware replaced with 316 Grade Stainless steel.
All lights converted to LED.
VW Truck Mirrors.
New window seals and door seals.
Custom teak shift knob.
