1987 Dove Blue Metallic Westfalia Rust Repair
Whether the job is big or small; rust repair jobs can be accommodated at any size.
Unfortunately, due to poor craftsmanship that had been done on this Westfalia when it was originally repainted, it was beginning to show some concerning signs of rust in all the classic problem areas (windshield gutter, kitchen panel seams). It wasn’t until digging deeper that it was discovered that the problem was much worse than anticipated. The rust needed to be properly addressed soon before the issues became any worse:
Scope of repair:
Nose panel replaced with high quality reproduction.
Left hand front fender replaced with high quality reproduction.
Right hand front fender replaced with high quality reproduction.
All Drivers side lower fenders replaced with high quality reproductions. Inner panel fabricated.
Full spray of repaired areas in 2K 2 Stage Base Coat/Clear Coat in LH5U/X2 Dove Blue Metallic. All Rust removed, media blasted, treated and repaired before primer.
Raptorliner treatment on all lower rockers.
All factory Fiberglass insulation replaced with 3M™ Thinsulate™ Acoustic Insulation SM600L
Update: May 4, 2025
Shortly after the first phase this van returned for some additional rust repair. What originally started out as a rear fender replacement quickly snowballed into a much larger job after finding out the entire area had been poorly repaired previously. The entire passenger rear corner had to be re-paneled in order to to complete the original job.
Scope of repair:
Right hand rear fender replaced with high quality reproduction.
Right D Pillar replaced with high quality reproduction.
All right hand side side lower fenders replaced with high quality reproductions. Inner panel fabricated.
Sliding door track panel fabricated from scratch.
Full spray of repaired areas in 2K 2 Stage Base Coat/Clear Coat in LH5U/X2 Dove Blue Metallic. All Rust removed, media blasted, treated and repaired before primer.
Raptorliner treatment on all lower rockers.
